Matt Freedman Unplugged "Freefall" featuring Dustin Napoli live at Hopetown Sound
Watch Matt Freedman's single "Freefall" performed unplugged with Dustin Napoli from Hopetown Sound.
A singer and songwriter with a 15 year history of writing and selling out shows, Matt Freedman was born in Pennsylvania and was a teenager when he began writing songs. His blend of storytelling, nostalgia and anthem hooks makes Matt a unique artist as well as songwriter in the pop/country and Americana genres. He taught himself to play guitar, drums and bass as a young teenager, and started his first band at 12 years old with middle school friends. As a student at Council Rock High School, Matt was the captain of his Football and Basketball teams, leading to a Football Scholarship as a quarterback. As a young football player, Matt set school records in passing and rushing yards, and earned himself First team honors. As Matt grew as a musician, his bands went to sell out the Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, and went on to play Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, and to play with Country greats like Miranda Lambert, Brett Young, Jon Langston, Maddie & Tae, and Lily Rose.
Freedman was being scouted as a baseball player during his time playing American Legion baseball, as a pitcher and outfielder but decided to follow his passion as a quarterback on the football field. After blowing out his knee during college on a passing play, Matt's career abruptly ended as a football player and Matt turned immediately to music. He began writing deeply personal songs to get through the change, and gravitated towards pop/punk, country and soul music. Influenced by artists like and .
Freefall Lyrics
When the world is dark as night
and you cant see
When it echoes like a canyon
its so deep
When the path you're on
Leaves you lost
As a ship out on the sea
Then Its time
to Free fall into me
When the hourglass
is runnin out of beads
if your imagination
is runnin out of dreams
When the long black train
the devil made
starts to pickup steam
Then its time
to Freefall into me
Chorus
Let it rain over me
All the pain that you feel
don’t you hold back child
till the light sets you free
And I know that I aint perfect
but im never out of reach
When its time
just Freefall into me
Verse 2
When your laughter seems impossible
to reach
if the music doesn't
launch you out of your seat
if the color of the mountains start to
feel more gray than green
then its time
to freefall into me
Chorus
Let it rain over me
All the pain that you feel
dont you hold back child
till the light sets you free
And I know that I aint perfect
but im never out of reach
When its time
just Freefall into me
Bridge
If the Broadway lights can’t illuminate
The street
If the sun on your face
Doesn’t make your heart skip a beat
If I’m not around
To remind you how
To listen to your dreams
When it’s time
Just freefall into me
Chorus
Let it rain over me
All the pain that you feel
dont you hold back child
till the light sets you free
And I know that I aint perfect
but im never out of reach
When its time
just Freefall into me
Origin Story:
Matt Freedman the artist and songwriter on “FreeFall” were in a deeply introspective and emotionally challenging time when this song was written. Matt has a young daughter that struggles with severe anxiety, as does Matt. Knowing some of the triggers that Matt faces as someone who has mental health issues himself, he wrote an outline of sorts to let his daughter know what to look for, and if any of the symptoms start to strike, to dive into her daddy’s arms for solace.
This is the song that Matt wrote to his daughter as a reminder that regardless if he is around physically or not, that his music and his presence will be with his daughter forever. This song is a deeply emotional ballad and prayer from father to daughter (or son) that vows their commitment to being there for that person when they are facing their darkest hour.
Anxiety and depression are real issues that now face more people than ever post COVID pandemic. The challenges that young parents have faced has been sometimes insurmountable, and this song is a reminder that everybody has that 1 person in their lives that you can always FREEFALL into when things get incredibly hard.
